Journey reference: BA-5D-EYASI
Lake Manyara and the Rift Valley landscape in northern Tanzania · Photo credit ↗Begin among Tarangire's baobabs, then spend two nights near Lake Eyasi. Datoga and Hadzabe visits have separate days, with time to return to the lodge and relax.
Ideal for travellers interested in cultural learning, local landscapes and an introduction to safari. No Ngorongoro, Serengeti or night drive is included.
Subject to rural-road access, lodge operation and community availability. Dry conditions make walking and transfers easier.
One Arusha night, one Karatu night and two Lake Eyasi nights. Day 3 focuses on the Datoga visit; Day 4 on the Hadzabe encounter. Day 5 is the road return to Arusha.
Private road safari with locally guided activities where listed
Arrival and the final travel day are included in the trip length. Driving times are planning guides; weather, roads and formalities can change the day.
Day 1
Meet your Boker Adventures representative at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel. Rest after your flight; no safari or cultural visit is scheduled today. Your briefing covers the route, daily timings, meals, medical or mobility needs, wildlife etiquette and any booked extras. Late arrivals receive their briefing the following morning.
Planning time: JRO to hotel: approximately 1-1.5 hours, depending on traffic and hotel location. Late dinner must be arranged in advance.
Day 2
After breakfast, travel to Tarangire for a game drive among baobabs, woodland and river habitats. Look for elephants, giraffes, antelope and birds, with a picnic lunch at a designated site. Your guide adjusts the route to wildlife and conditions. Leave with enough time to reach your Karatu lodge for dinner; this is a safari-and-transfer day.
Planning time: Arusha to Tarangire: about 2-3 hours; park exit to Karatu: 1.5-2.5 hours, plus game drives and stops.
Day 3
After breakfast, travel from Karatu towards Lake Eyasi and settle into your lodge. Meet the local liaison for an afternoon visit with willing Datoga hosts. Discussion may include pastoral livelihoods, family life or metalworking, depending on what the hosts choose to share. Return to the lodge for dinner.
Planning time: Karatu to the lodge: approximately 1.5-2.5 hours, plus local driving to the visit. Host availability determines the encounter; a specific demonstration is not guaranteed.
Day 4
Start early for an arranged encounter with Hadzabe hosts, also called Hadza, accompanied by a local liaison. A walk may explore tracking, plants and gathering knowledge according to the hosts' wishes. Hunting or a successful hunt is never promised or required. Return for lunch and a relaxed afternoon at the lodge. Ask permission before taking photographs and respect a refusal.
Planning time: Meeting locations can change. Agree the walking distance and confirm local driving time with the liaison. Remain at the same lodge tonight; there is no onward transfer after the visit.
Day 5
After breakfast, drive to Arusha with comfort stops and lunch. Finish at an Arusha hotel; that night's room and any onward JRO transfer are extra. An additional Arusha night before an international departure is recommended. Boker must review any proposed same-day onward travel before you book it.
Planning time: Allow approximately 4.5-6 hours to Arusha, and longer if tracks are poor. JRO is a further 1-1.5 hours away, plus airline check-in time. There is no cultural visit or game drive today.
