From baobab woodland to the Rift Valley lake, this route combines two nights inside Tarangire with two at Natron. A night safari and a full Natron day balance the substantial road journeys.

Ideal for travellers who enjoy landscapes and local walks as well as wildlife and accept two longer road journeys. No Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater or volcano ascent is included.

What makes this journey special

  • Two Tarangire nights and one night drive
  • Two Lake Natron nights
  • Lake walk plus waterfall walk or village visit

When to go & how it flows

Prefer drier dates, with advance checks on Natron road access and night-drive operation. Lake walks depend on heat, water levels and local access.

Day 3 includes the night drive and an afternoon rest. Days 4 and 6 are long road transfers. Two nights at each safari base protect time for activities, but this is the most road-intensive choice in the collection.

Private road safari with locally guided activities where listed

Your journey, day by day

Arrival and the final travel day are included in the trip length. Driving times are planning guides; weather, roads and formalities can change the day.

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Tanzania

Meet your Boker Adventures representative at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel. Rest after your flight; no safari or cultural visit is scheduled today. Your briefing covers the route, daily timings, meals, medical or mobility needs, wildlife etiquette and any booked extras. Late arrivals receive their briefing the following morning.

    Overnight
    Arusha
    Meals
    dinner

Planning time: JRO to hotel: approximately 1-1.5 hours, depending on traffic and hotel location. Late dinner must be arranged in advance.

  2. Day 2

    Tarangire arrival and wildlife viewing

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire and explore on the way to your lodge, with a picnic lunch or lunch at the lodge according to timing. Watch elephants, giraffes and birds among the baobabs and river habitats. Settle into your room and enjoy a relaxed evening. The night drive is planned for tomorrow, leaving today flexible after the road journey.

    Overnight
    Tarangire National Park
    Meals
    breakfast, lunch and dinner

Planning time: Arusha to the main gate: approximately 2-3 hours, followed by the shorter transfer to Tarangire Safari Lodge and wildlife stops. This itinerary retains this northern-park lodge in both comfort categories.

  3. Day 3

Tarangire by day and after dark

Enjoy a morning game drive, then return for lunch and a proper afternoon break. After the activity briefing and dinner arrangements, join your pre-booked night drive inside Tarangire National Park with the approved operator. Look for nocturnal life such as genets, bushbabies, porcupines or owls; no particular animal is guaranteed. Return to the same lodge to sleep.

    Overnight
    Tarangire National Park
    Meals
    breakfast, lunch and dinner

Planning time: No hotel change. Plan an approximately 1.5-2-hour night outing, with the actual departure, duration and route confirmed by the operator and park. It may use a shared lodge vehicle, separate from your private daytime vehicle.

  4. Day 4

    From Tarangire to Lake Natron

Leave after breakfast and travel out through northern Tarangire towards Mto wa Mbu, then north through the Rift Valley to Natron. Take lunch and comfort stops on the way. Settle into camp and rest; no guided walk or climb is added to this long road day. Views towards Ol Doinyo Lengai depend on the weather.

    Overnight
    Lake Natron
    Meals
    breakfast, lunch and dinner

Planning time: Allow approximately 6-8 hours from Tarangire Safari Lodge including normal stops, and longer in adverse conditions. This route uses a northern Tarangire base; a southern camp would require a revised route and timing.

  5. Day 5

    Lake Natron and local perspectives

Take a locally guided lake-edge walk in the cooler morning hours. Look for birds and enjoy the Rift Valley setting; flamingo numbers and access vary. Rest at camp around midday. In the afternoon, choose the included Ngare Sero waterfall walk if water levels and footing are safe, or a locally guided village conversation arranged with willing hosts. The two activities are alternatives, not an obligation to fit both in.

    Overnight
    Lake Natron
    Meals
    breakfast, lunch and dinner

Planning time: Walk length is agreed with your guide. Gorge routes can involve slippery rock and wading. A shorter dry-land walk can replace the gorge. Lake Natron itself is not a swimming lake.

  6. Day 6

Return from Lake Natron to Arusha

After breakfast, return to Arusha with lunch and comfort stops. Finish at an Arusha hotel. This package contains five nights only, so tonight's accommodation and any onward JRO transfer are extra. We recommend an additional Arusha night before flying internationally the next day.

    Overnight
    No overnight stay included
    Meals
    breakfast and lunch

Planning time: Allow approximately 6-8 hours, possibly longer if road conditions deteriorate. No game drive or same-day international connection is promised.
