Journey reference: BA-6D-TAR-NIGHT
Lake Manyara and the Rift Valley landscape in northern Tanzania · Photo credit ↗Two nights inside Tarangire and two in Karatu mean fewer hotel changes. Enjoy a night drive after an afternoon break, then give the crater a day of its own.
Ideal for travellers who prefer time in two wildlife areas and a special night-drive experience over a longer list of parks.
June-October is a useful dry-season starting point. Other dates depend on lodge opening, road conditions and night-drive operation.
Day 1 arrival; Days 2-5 activities and transfers; Day 6 departure. Two consecutive Tarangire nights and two Karatu nights reduce packing. Oliver's Camp adds longer internal park drives.
Private road safari with locally guided activities where listed
Arrival and the final travel day are included in the trip length. Driving times are planning guides; weather, roads and formalities can change the day.
Day 1
Meet your Boker Adventures representative at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel. Rest after your flight; no safari or cultural visit is scheduled today. Your briefing covers the route, daily timings, meals, medical or mobility needs, wildlife etiquette and any booked extras. Late arrivals receive their briefing the following morning.
Planning time: JRO to hotel: approximately 1-1.5 hours, depending on traffic and hotel location. Late dinner must be arranged in advance.
Day 2
After breakfast, drive to Tarangire and explore on the way to your lodge, with a picnic lunch or lunch at the lodge according to timing. Watch elephants, giraffes and birds among the baobabs and river habitats. Settle into your room and enjoy a relaxed evening. The night drive is planned for tomorrow, leaving today flexible after the road journey.
Planning time: Arusha to the main gate: approximately 2-3 hours, followed by the lodge transfer and wildlife stops. Oliver's Camp is about three hours south of the entrance, so its arrival day is substantially longer than the Tarangire Safari Lodge version.
Day 3
Enjoy a morning game drive, then return for lunch and a proper afternoon break. After the activity briefing and dinner arrangements, join your pre-booked night drive inside Tarangire National Park with the approved operator. Look for nocturnal life such as genets, bushbabies, porcupines or owls; no particular animal is guaranteed. Return to the same lodge to sleep.
Planning time: No hotel change. Plan an approximately 1.5-2-hour night outing, with the actual departure, duration and route confirmed by the operator and park. It may use a shared lodge vehicle, separate from your private daytime vehicle.
Day 4
Enjoy breakfast after last night's outing, then leave the park with selected wildlife stops. Continue to Karatu for lunch en route or at the lodge and a restful afternoon. This day has no crater descent or additional park visit. If desired, ask about a separately quoted short farm or coffee activity only if arrival time allows.
Planning time: Approximately 3-4 hours from Tarangire Safari Lodge to Karatu with normal exit formalities; allow around 5-6 hours from Oliver's Camp, excluding lengthy sightings. Exact times depend on roads and lodge location.
Day 5
Leave early for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the crater after formalities. Explore grassland, wetland and other habitats, looking for the resident wildlife; a rhino or predator sighting is a possibility, never a promise. Enjoy a picnic lunch and return to your Karatu lodge after the permitted crater session. The same lodge awaits tonight.
Planning time: Karatu to the crater access area: about 1.5-2 hours each way, depending on the lodge, gate queues and descent route. The crater session follows permit limits.
Day 6
After breakfast, return to Arusha with lunch arranged en route or in town. Continue to JRO for a flight whose timing Boker has checked before booking, or finish at an Arusha hotel. No game drive is scheduled. An early flight requires a separately quoted additional night or a revised itinerary.
Planning time: Karatu to Arusha: about 3-4 hours; onward to JRO: a further 1-1.5 hours, plus stops and airline check-in time. No hotel night is included today.
These are alternatives from the itinerary, not a reservation. We confirm the property, room and meal plan for each stop in your quote. Upgrades can change the budget.
