Journey reference: BA-7D-NATRON
Lake Manyara and the Rift Valley landscape in northern Tanzania · Photo credit ↗Travel from Tarangire, the crater and Lake Manyara into Natron's striking Rift Valley landscape. Two lake nights allow cooler-hour walks and local guiding; a volcano climb is not part of this journey.
Ideal for travellers who enjoy contrasting scenery and guided walks as well as game drives.
Prefer drier travel periods after local access checks. Natron is hot; rain can make remote roads and gorge walks unsuitable.
Two nights in Karatu, one around Mto wa Mbu and two at Natron. Day 7 is a long return to Arusha, with no international flight connection promised.
Private road safari with locally guided activities where listed
Arrival and the final travel day are included in the trip length. Driving times are planning guides; weather, roads and formalities can change the day.
Day 1
Meet your Boker Adventures representative at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to your hotel. Rest after your flight; no safari or cultural visit is scheduled today. Your briefing covers the route, daily timings, meals, medical or mobility needs, wildlife etiquette and any booked extras. Late arrivals receive their briefing the following morning.
Planning time: JRO to hotel: approximately 1-1.5 hours, depending on traffic and hotel location. Late dinner must be arranged in advance.
Day 2
After breakfast, travel to Tarangire for a game drive among baobabs, woodland and river habitats. Look for elephants, giraffes, antelope and birds, with a picnic lunch at a designated site. Your guide adjusts the route to wildlife and conditions. Leave with enough time to reach your Karatu lodge for dinner; this is a safari-and-transfer day.
Planning time: Arusha to Tarangire: about 2-3 hours; park exit to Karatu: 1.5-2.5 hours, plus game drives and stops.
Day 3
Leave early for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the crater after formalities. Explore grassland, wetland and other habitats, looking for the resident wildlife; a rhino or predator sighting is a possibility, never a promise. Enjoy a picnic lunch and return to your Karatu lodge after the permitted crater session. The same lodge awaits tonight.
Planning time: Karatu to the crater access area: about 1.5-2 hours each way, depending on the lodge, gate queues and descent route. The crater session follows permit limits.
Day 4
Drive down from Karatu for a Lake Manyara game drive with picnic lunch. Follow the accessible tracks through forest and lakeside habitats, then settle into your lodge in the Mto wa Mbu or Manyara escarpment area. Keep the late afternoon free; a market visit would be an optional replacement for some viewing, not another compulsory stop.
Planning time: Karatu to gate: about 30-60 minutes; the lodge transfer varies by property. Flooded tracks can change the park route.
Day 5
Drive north through the Rift Valley to Lake Natron, stopping for views and lunch. The final approach can be rough and dusty. Reach your lodge, meet the local activity guide and rest during the heat. Enjoy views towards Ol Doinyo Lengai, also written Ol Doinyo Lengai, when conditions are clear.
Planning time: Allow about 3.5-5 hours from the Mto wa Mbu area, with longer travel possible after rain or from an escarpment lodge. No summit climb today.
Day 6
Take a locally guided lake-edge walk in the cooler morning hours. Look for birds and enjoy the Rift Valley setting; flamingo numbers and access vary. Rest at camp around midday. In the afternoon, choose the included Ngare Sero waterfall walk if water levels and footing are safe, or a locally guided village conversation arranged with willing hosts. The two activities are alternatives, not an obligation to fit both in.
Planning time: Walk length is agreed with your guide. Gorge routes can involve slippery rock and wading. A shorter dry-land walk can replace the gorge. Lake Natron itself is not a swimming lake.
Day 7
After breakfast, leave for Arusha with comfort stops and lunch along the route. Finish at an Arusha hotel. This package includes six nights only: tonight's hotel, an onward JRO transfer and any extra services must be quoted separately. A seventh night in Arusha is recommended before an international flight the following day.
Planning time: Plan approximately 6-8 hours, possibly longer in poor conditions. Do not sell this day as a guaranteed same-day international connection.
These are alternatives from the itinerary, not a reservation. We confirm the property, room and meal plan for each stop in your quote. Upgrades can change the budget.
